3 Ways to Tell That Your Business Needs Corporate Photography Services
One of the most disappointing things that can make a great website look bad is poor photographs. Whether they are poorly lit, off-color or the wrong resolution, these photos can make the images look like an afterthought and compromise the professional aesthetic of your site. So, here we’ll explore some of the important aspects of great photos for your website.
Resolution
Resolution is a vital component of any good picture, but it may even create problems using some sites. Many e-commerce sites require very specific photo requirements. For example, Amazon requires image sizes of at least 1000 pixels in width or height, but 2560 pixels wide is recommended. There are also requirements for the image frame; the product needs to fill 85 percent of the frame, and the background, with a pure white background for all product photos. Additionally, there are restrictions to the amount of white space around the area of the image.
Even if you’re posting the images on your own website, the wrong resolution could affect your photo performance. An image that is too large could create a slow loading photo or one that fails to load completely. However, small images can look blurry or pixelated. So, it is crucial to use the correct resolution for all your images.
Color
Another common issue with website shots is that the images are off-color. While many new camera phones can do a decent job of adjusting for color, sometimes these devices can be tricked by mixed light sources. For example, if you’re shooting a dish in a restaurant, the light from a nearby window could cause the tungsten restaurant lighting to shift blue from the daylight.
If you’re using an SLR camera, if you’ve set the color balance incorrectly for the light source, you’re likely to find the picture shifting blue, red or other colors. Fortunately, all of these issues can be corrected or avoided altogether with controlled lighting, Photoshop adjustments or correct camera settings.
Lighting
As we’ve just touched on above, lighting is another crucial aspect for your website photos. To create a great marketing photo, it needs to communicate your message effortlessly and quickly. This means that all the important details should be prominent and clear in your shot. So, if something is covered by a prop, shadow, background element, or bad angle, your shot will be a fail.
Lightboxes can be used to provide bright and even lighting to your subject, but if you want to achieve a more dramatic look without detracting from your message, you may need more artistic targeted lighting.
When produced correctly, great photography should look effortless, but this doesn’t mean that it is easy. However, with a little care and attention, adjusting your resolution, lighting, and color settings, you can take your website photos to a whole new level.
